THE QUICK-CHANGE PRO-RANGE SERIES
When you have bought all the components for your new Pro-Range lure, it will consist of a head, a shoulder (brass or PVC), two skirts and a piece of rubber locking-tube. You will find that this new lure has several advantages over a traditional lure. Amongst these is the slickness of the material which the head is made from, which makes it easy to pull the lure out of a fish’s mouth - this leads to better hook-up ratios and is one of the reasons Pro-Ranges are becoming so popular with both regular lure fishermen and those many professional crews who practice bait & switch. The screw-in shoulder allows for instant skirt changes without cutting or re-rigging your tackle, allowing crews to change both colours and the overall size of a lure while still retaining the same head shape. In addition, the choice of brass or pvc shoulders allows the user to correctly weight the lure for sea and speed conditions. Precise machining of heads and shoulders means your lure will also run true forever, no matter how many bites or fish you may have caught on it - no more retiring lures because they don’t ‘run right’.
How the system works. Our Pro-Range lures have been designed specifically to give you, the angler, several great advantages and excellent value for money. Each lure consists of a head, a shoulder, and a set of skirts. They are available in three head sizes - 22 (large), 16 (medium) and 12(small). Each head then has a shoulder that screws into the back of it, locking the skirts you have chosen into place. The shoulders are available in both PVC and brass, allowing the user to weight the lure as they want. All three sizes of head can take TWO sizes of skirt, thus creating either a regular sized lure or one with less profile. To allow this change of skirt, all one has to do is change the shoulder.
The 22 size of head takes two sizes of skirt - either a no.2 or a no.3. Shoulders should therefore be either a 22/2 or a 22/3
The 16 size of head takes two sizes of skirt - either a no.3 or a no.4. Shoulders should therefore be either a 16/3 or a 16/4
The 12 sizes of head also takes two sizes of skirt - either a no.4 or a no.5. Shoulders should therefore be either a 12/4 or a 12/5.
As previously stated, the new Quick-Change lures are available in several different sizes, and heads can be attached to various sized skirts : a no.2 skirt is 13 inches long, a no.3 skirt 11 inches long, a no.4 skirt 8.5 inches long and a no.5 skirt 8.25 inches long. The user can choose between two differently sized shoulders already discussed for each series of heads, allowing the lure to be either "full-size" with a large skirt for those occasions when big fish are present or sea-conditions deteriorate, or less bulky and lighter with a smaller skirt to increase the action of a lure and maintain its stability in calmer waters.

To rig your lure, you may either assemble all the components and then rig as you would a normal lure, or you may partially rig the lure for travel or storage purposes.
To rig the entire lure, first push your shoulder of choice through your double skirt combo. Then thread your leader through the centre hole of the lure head, exiting the rear, and then push it through the shoulder/skirts and through your piece of lock tube - before crimping it to your hook-set. Next screw the shirt/shoulder into the back of the head, making sure the skirts are correctly orientated to the shape of the head. this may mean simply re-positioning the skirts on the shoulder before re-attaching. Now push the lock-tube into the back of the shoulder, align your hook-set and pull the leading crimp tight into the lock-tube. This tubing is designed to protrude slightly from the shoulder to enable the user to remove it for re-rigging. If your crimp is not big enough to fit sufficiently tightly into the locking-tube, simply wrap it with rigging tape until it fits snugly. The locking tube is designed to flare tight when a crimp is pulled into it, jamming the hook-set into the back of the head. Finally, attach your connection device (snap, swivel or ring) to the other end of the leader and you’re done.
When screwing the shoulder and skirt combination into the back of the head, do not over-tighten into the head with excessive force. Hand-tight is sufficient. With practice you will find that by pulling down on the skirts as you tighten that additional turns can be made to the shoulder to align the skirts if needed.
To partially rig the lure, slide the head and then the locking-tube onto your leader, crimp a hook-set on the rear end and then crimp your connection device to the other end of the leader. You may then store the lure like this, keeping skirts and shoulders separate. This is also a good way to store lures in storage on a rod. To finish rigging the lure, simply slide your choice of skirts over the hook-set (single or double hook-sets), over the locking-tube, and up to the back of the head. Slot the screw-in shoulder onto the leader between the skirts and the hook-set, slide it up through the skirts and then screw the shoulder into the head making sure the skirts are correctly orientated to the shape of the head (this may mean the simply re-positioning the skirts on the shoulder before re-attaching). Insert your locking tube into the back of the shoulder and tighten your hook-set into the tubing as before. The size of the tubing has been chosen so that the tubing flares into the back of the shoulder when the hook-set is pulled into it.
To change skirts or the shoulder, simply pull your hook-set out of the lure, pull out the locking-tube, unscrew the shoulder and slide it off the leader. Then slide your skirts down the hook-set and over the hook/s. Change either the skirts and/or the shoulder and reassemble the lure. If the locking-tube is difficult to remove, you may use a table knife in the slot to push it out, or pick the tubing out with a hook or other sharp object. Needle-nose pliers will also help.
All components of the range are available separately - heads, skirts, shoulders, locking-tubes and eyes. We will soon be offering brass washers to enable the lures to be weighted at intermediate levels. These simply fit on the shoulder underneath the skirts. We are also able to supply shoulders with a longer thread for those fishermen who habitually use teasers with three or more skirts.
Skirts - "regular" skirts are generally available on order. "Special" skirts are available by prior arrangement only. We consider our skirts to be the best on the market : lustrous, clean, colourful and made with a decent amount of "body", unlike many other brands that fall apart at the first sight of a fish. If you think they are too thick, simply thin out the skirts with a pair of scissors, making sure the balance of the lure is not altered.
